Applications Engineer

Job Title: Applications Engineer

Outline Job Function

As the Applications Engineer, you will be conducting application engineering/ customer training on a range of CNC Milling and Turning Machines. You will also be looking at specific problems and then developing potential solutions, additionally you will conduct machine tool demonstrations at the company’s showroom.

Main responsibilities:

  • Deliver in-house and on-site operator training courses and machine pass-off requirements.
  • Close liaison with and support of our sales team on customer sales enquiries.
  • Post sales customer support.
  • Utilisation of CAM systems for 3 and 5 axis milling, multi-axis turning.
  • Maintain close relationship with counterpart at our Principals.
  • Interpret customer manufacturing drawings and configurations to identify best machine (tooling, fixturing and processes) for the application.
  • Develop structured training courses for customers, operators and programmers.
  • Tooling and work holding
    • Organising tooling for demos
    • Keeping up to date with advances in tooling
    • Keeping up to date with work holding manufacturers
    • Housekeeping and stock control of tooling
  • Machine demonstrations:
    • Preparing demonstrations for each type of machine
    • Being point of contact during demonstrations
    • Follow up and write up of demonstration results
  • Ensure that company H&S requirements, quality standards and procedures are adhered to.

Required Skills & Experience

  • A clean valid driving license is essential.
  • Experience in the operation and programming of CNC turning centres, CNC vertical & horizontal machining centres utilising both conversational & ISO programming techniques is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of Fanuc, Heidenhain & Siemens controls, part probing, CAD/CAM and systems for 3 and 5 axis milling and multi axis turning machines.
  • Experience with modern cutting tools & machining methods is essential.

Personal Qualities & Attributes:

  • Excellent control system knowledge – Heidenhain, Siemens, Fanuc
  • Customer facing skills.
  • Wide ranging production engineering / machine shop experience.
  • Knowledge of current manufacturing processes, tooling and fixtures.
  • Machine presentations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately at all levels.
  • Ability to self-motivate and prioritise workload.
  • Experience in Macro programming.

Senior CNC Service Engineer (Electrical)

Job Title: Senior CNC Service Engineer (Electrical) – Tier 4

Main Duties

  • Servicing and maintaining our ranges of Machine Tool products.
  • Attending faults, diagnosing problems, and rectifying machines.  Replacing parts, as necessary.
  • Liaising with Technical support, Service Management and Customer Services.
  • Undertaking planned maintenance of machines.
  • Identifying any parts required and order via Service and/or Spares department.
  • Carrying out Renishaw Ballbar Callibration.
  • Diagnose machine faults via PLC diagnostic functions.
  • Be an integral part of a project installation team.
  • Provide technical support to colleagues within the Service & Engineering functions.
  • Support & assist technical support engineers as and when required.
  • Build relationships with colleagues and customers to improve results.
  • Explaining machine faults, findings and repairs undertaken to customers.  This may be in the form of a written report.
  • Mentoring junior engineering technicians, trainees & apprentices.
  • Understand the needs of our customers and market sectors.
  • Identify sales opportunities and pass these onto the Sales department.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Electrical engineering apprentice trained.
  • Manufacturing engineering / Machine Tool background.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ Service Engineer, Machine Tool experience.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Good understanding of servo systems.
  • Ability to understand and diagnose machine faults via PLC diagnostic functions.
  • IT literate.
  • Up to date industry knowledge and working with H&S legislation.
  • Full, valid driving licence.

Job Title: Senior CNC Service Engineer (Mechanical) – Tier 4

Main Duties

  • Servicing and maintaining our ranges of Machine Tool products.
  • Attending faults, diagnosing problems, and rectifying machines. Replacing parts, as necessary.
  • Liaising with Technical support, Service Management and Customer Services.
  • Undertaking planned maintenance of machines.
  • Identifying any parts required and order via Service and/or Spares department.
  • Rebuilding of automatic indexing heads with appropriate training from the Principal.
  • Carrying out Renishaw Ballbar Callibration.
  • Be an integral part of a project installation team.
  • Provide technical support to colleagues within the Service & Engineering functions.
  • Support & assist technical support engineers as and when required.
  • Build relationships with colleagues and customers to improve results.
  • Explaining machine faults, findings and repairs undertaken to customers. This may be in the form of a written report.

  • Check and adjust machine geometry on all machine within the TW Ward product range
